An estimated 345,000 people in Australia live with chronic wounds costing the health system 2.85 billion annually. Wounds can result in long term pain, decreased mobility, lost productivity and reduced physical and psychosocial wellbeing.
Chronic wounds are wounds that have not progressed through the stages of healing normally. They may heal at a much slower rate, heal only partially or reoccur after partial or complete healing. Chronic wound rates are high across the NSW health system and wound management is a significant expense for both patients and the health services. It has a significant impact on the quality of life for patients, carers and families.
This quality improvement activity is for practices wishing to establish a wound care clinic in their practice.
Set up and maintain a sustainable wound care clinic that aims to improve wound healing times by delivering evidenced based care resulting in enhanced outcomes for the patient.
