In recognition of World Elder Abuse Awareness Day on 15 June, the Older Persons Abuse Prevention Coffs Coast Collaborative has developed a Service Directory to assist the community in knowing who to call if they have concerns about an older person or who wish to know more about elder abuse.
World Elder Abuse Awareness Day aims to raise awareness about the abuse of older people and promote dignity and respect. This abuse can take many forms and includes financial, emotional, phycological, physical, sexual and coercive behaviours.
Across the North Coast, financial and psychological forms of abuse are the most prevalent, and sadly, family members and friends are most likely to carry out this abuse.
Older people have the right to feel safe and have choice and control over their lives. Abuse of any form should not be tolerated by our community and this new directory provides information to help everyone know where to find help.

The directory was launched at the Coffs Harbour markets on 13 June 2024, with members of the Collaborative on hand to answer questions and promote the safety of our seniors.
While the directory contains some Coffs Coast specific information, an editable version is available that can be used across the North Coast.
