An Active Script List (ASL) is a digital list of all active electronic prescriptions for a patient, including repeats.
ASL is a convenient option for patients who take multiple medications and a great replacement for the ‘script on file’ at a pharmacy.
ASL is an initiative of the Australian Digital Health Agency.
Patients are required to register for an Active Script List. Once registered, patients no longer need to keep track of their electronic prescriptions, they are automatically uploaded to the patients ASL. This includes ePrescribing tokens, as well as any paper scripts that have the barcode attached.
This means a patient can walk into a pharmacy, grant the pharmacy access to their ASL via an easy SMS prompt and have their medications dispensed. There is no need to go back through emails or text messages to find the correct token or call their prescriber to request a lost token be resent, an active script list has these scripts available.
What’s new?
Previously, only pharmacies could register patients for an Active Script List. However, recently, some general practice softwares have been updated to include this capability.
- For general practice, please check with your prescribing software provider if the capability to register and view patients Active Script Lists is now available
- For pharmacy, please check with your dispensing software provider if you are unsure if you have access to Active Script Lists.
