On 3 July 2024 in Coffs Harbour, we were joined by Rose Jackson, Minister for Mental Health and North Coast, to launch our Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Northern NSW Local Health District and Mid North Coast Local Health District.
This is a commitment to drive a ‘one health system’ approach that will improve health outcomes across the North Coast by strengthening working relationships, reducing complexity and barriers to entry for people needing primary health care.
One of the first great outcomes of this new partnership is the Mental Health, Alcohol and Other Drugs and Suicide Prevention Joint Regional Plan which is the culmination of work undertaken by key staff within each of these three organisations.
The joint regional plan will improve access to integrated and affordable mental health, suicide prevention and alcohol and other drugs (AOD) services, making it easier for people to seek help when they need it.
We also heard a heartfelt speech from local community member Dom White, sharing her experiences of navigating local mental health services, and the value of what a ‘one health system’ approach will bring to the community.
