The Australian Government has developed a new Aged Care Act to strengthen Australia’s aged care system. The new Act aims to ensure that people who access aged care services funded by the Australian Government are treated with respect and have the quality of life they deserve.
The Bill was passed in November 2024 and the Act is due to commence in July 2025.
Healthy North Coast is keen to share the details of this transformational legislation with health professionals in the region, knowing that it is important to so many older people living on the North Coast and those that deliver care or support to them.
Draft ‘rules’ were produced in March 2025, but have not they been finalised. Healthy North Coast is keen to make sure any information provided is accurate and current.
Until that time, you can access information from the Department of Health’s website or from the Older Person’s Advocacy Network.
If you have any specific queries, feel free to contact Jo Winwood, Associate Director Healthy Living and Ageing at [email protected] and Jo will help you find the information you need.
