Anne Moehead OAM, PSM is a highly respected nurse and dementia care leader whose work has shaped how older people with cognitive impairment are supported across our region in Northern NSW.
With more than 3 decades in nursing, Anne was a trailblazer in psychogeriatric and dementia care, becoming one of the first nurse practitioners specialising in dementia in Australia.
She also broke new ground as the first psychogeriatric clinical nurse consultant to work with an Aged Care Assessment Team in Australia, helping bridge hospital, community, and residential aged care.
A commitment to regional & rural NSW
What sets Anne apart is her deep commitment to regional and rural communities. Through her clinical work, education, and outreach, she has expanded specialist dementia care access for those unable to travel and helped aged care teams effectively manage complex behaviours, mental health issues, and care needs.
Anne has also made a lasting contribution to the aged care workforce, developing dementia education programs for nurses and carers, contributing to university teaching, and supporting practical, person-centred approaches to care.
Continuing her advocacy
Today, she continues her advocacy through community leadership, including her role as the Chair with the Dementia Inclusive Ballina Alliance, promoting understanding, inclusion, and dignity for people living with dementia.
Anne continues to contribute to the future of nursing as a professional member on the NSW Board of the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Australia (AHPRA) and a life member of the Australian College of Nurse Practitioners.
Her service has been recognised nationally with both an Order of Australia Medal (OAM) and a Public Service Medal (PSM) – a reflection of the profound impact of her work on people, families, and aged care services across the region.
