Working Together to Manage Obesity
Kempsey Macleay RSL
Wed 24 Feb 2021
6:00 pm – 8:15 pm
The Kempsey Macleay Clinical Society is kicking off its 2021 calendar of events with a meeting to look at managing obesity in the Kempsey Macleay region. It invites practice nurses and managers, GPs and their registrars, exercise physiologists, dietitians, physiotherapists, pharmacists, Aboriginal health workers and other primary care providers to register.
“Chronic conditions, including obesity in the Macleay, contribute to an unnecessarily large burden on the health system,” says Michael Kemp, Physiotherapist and Owner of Keystone Health.
“As a practitioner, it’s difficult to start effective conversations on a patient’s weight when you are seeing them for such a short space of time. I look forward to leading a conversation with my fellow practitioners to learn about current options. The more primary care professionals that register and join the conversation, the better it will be. Together we can discuss the best steps and processes in management of obesity in the Macleay.”
Michael will be joined by:
- Tom Dickson, Exercise Physiologist
- Michael Smith, Aboriginal Health Worker
- Zoe Brew, Clinical Psychologist
- Dr Andy Williams, General Practitioner
Together the panel will explore case scenarios, allied health options in the weight loss journey, and other services that are available in the Macleay region.
Moving forward
Following this conversation and CPD education session, Kempsey Macleay Clinical Society plans to hold a community-facing event on obesity management. You’ll hear more about this on the night and will have the opportunity to be part of the planning. You’ll also hear from Healthy North Coast about its newly-launched Clinical Society Framework and what other localised CPD training will be available throughout 2021.
A certificate of attendance will be provided and we encourage you to self-submit for CPD/PDP.
