In Woolgoolga, several initiatives are progressing including the men’s social connection program, PCYC Safe Driving Course and the Woopi Gardens cooking program. Read on for more details.
Men’s Social Connection Group
Our men’s social connection and physical activity program has a name! The group known as the Everbetter Bunch started on 17 December 2018. The program incorporates twice-weekly group fitness classes, fitness assessments and talks from a variety of health professionals.
If you are a man from the Woolgoolga community over 40 years of age and interested in joining the group or seeking more information, please contact Jacqui Smith at [email protected]
PCYC Safer Driving Course
In 2019 Healthy Towns will fund the delivery of the PCYC Safer Driving Course at Woolgoolga High School. The program aims to teach effective strategies to manage road risks and promote safe driving skills. Learner drivers who complete the course receive 20 hours of logbook credit, helping them to earn their drivers’ license sooner.
Woolgoolga Interagency Meetings
The second Woolgoolga interagency meeting was held on Monday 3 December 2018 at the CWA Hall. There were 35 service providers in attendance and the group reports they love the opportunity to share information and connect on issues affecting Woopi.
The next meeting is scheduled for Monday 4 February 2019.
Healthy Towns Month Working Group
A working group has been formed to co-design the much anticipated Healthy Towns Month to be held in Woolgoolga in 2019. The group had its first meeting on Wednesday 28 November 2018 to discuss and brainstorm ideas for the month-long event. A short questionnaire has been sent to health and community service providers to identify those interested in being involved and suitable dates.
What’s next?
Healthy Towns is currently co-designing cooking and nutrition classes in collaboration with Woopi Community Gardens. Stay tuned for more updates in 2019!
