February has been an exciting month for Healthy Towns, hosting two events as part of the Macleay Valley Seniors Festival and exploring options for a community garden in South West Rocks.
Seniors Festival Events
Healthy Towns partnered with Kempsey Shire Council to host a health check morning tea and a legal information luncheon in South West Rocks as part of the 2019 Seniors Festival.
Blood pressure checks and lung capacity testing were served up alongside delicious scones at the health check morning tea. Attendees were also able to find out about My Aged Care, Hearing Australia and My Health Record.
The legal luncheon provided seniors with a chance to hear from the Seniors Rights Service, Mid North Coast Community Legal Centre, My Health Record and NSW Fair Trading. Attendees were provided information on how to identify and avoid scammers, important things to know about setting up a power of attorney and tips for navigating the aged care system. They also learnt more about how to access and manage their My Health Record.
Horseshoe Bay Reserve parkrun is Looking for Volunteers
The Horseshoe Bay Reserve parkrun has been up and running (pun intended) for 6 months with a core group of volunteers showing up each Saturday to ensure the event goes off without a hitch.
They are now looking to add more volunteers to the roster. Volunteer roles include time keeper, marshal, tail walker and more.
If you are interested in getting out in the community on Saturday mornings, meeting new people and taking in the beautiful scenery email [email protected] or visit them on Facebook.
