On Thursday 6 February, Healthy North Coast’s Workforce Development team hosted a welcome dinner for the region’s newest GP registrars at Opal Cove Resort, Coffs Harbour.
The registrars were on the North Coast for their RACGP orientation, making it the perfect opportunity to bring everyone together. This cohort of 41 first year GP registrars is the first for 2025, bringing the total number of GP registrars currently in training across the area to 128.
The dinner was an informal gathering and a fantastic event, offering the registrars a chance to network with their peers as well as RACGP and HNC staff.

Luke Elias, Director Primary Health Programs and Partnerships, and Dr Adrian Gilliland, Chair of the HNC Board, opened the evening with a warm welcome from HNC, followed by special guests, The Welcome Experience Local Connectors, who shared insights into how they can support registrars (and their families) with their connection into the community.
Â

HNC Medical Educators (Drs Chris Bentley, Geoff Arthurson & Beth Allin, pictured above) were also in attendance, introducing themselves to the new registrars and drawing two lucky door prizes.
New handbook for registrars unveiled
Each registrar received a copy of the new ‘An Introduction to Healthy North Coast Primary Health Network for GP Registrars’ handbook. This resource has been developed to provide additional support, information, and tips for getting started in general practice.

 Aboriginal health training
The following day, Susan Parker Pavlovic (Director Aboriginal Health Partnerships at HNC) and Dr Chris Bentley (HNC Medical Educator) attended the Joint Colleges Training Services‘ Aboriginal health training, where they had the opportunity to speak with the registrars. They offered valuable guidance and tips, emphasising the importance of cultural safety.

Healthy North Coast’s Workforce Development team continues to work closely with RACGP, ACRRM, and JCTS to identify further opportunities for to support registrars, complementing the work already in place by the colleges.
