NCPHN’s Women’s Cancer Screening Collaborative (WCSC) project resulted in the development of a range of resources. These include:
- Women’s cancer screening Measuring for Improvement guide (quality improvement manual).
- Tailored education materials.
- Case studies.
- Practical actions checklist poster and flyer (which provides eight tips to increase women’s cancer screening).
These documents can be found at: https://hnc.org.au/wcsc/
The WCSC project increased breast and cervical cancer screening participation rates across the North Coast through:
- Structured, clinician-led general practice quality improvement processes and tools to trial and embed change and address primary care infrastructure and data limitations.
- Support to improve access and equity by using NCPHN’s North Coast Health Literacy Framework and community mapping processes (Consumer Research) to assess and address environmental and individual health literacy barriers to screening.
23 general practices between Port Macquarie and Tweed Heads were involved in the project, with 94 per cent of practices saying their overall experience in the WCSC was positive.
The WCSC project, funded by the Cancer Institute NSW and NCPHN, is now finalised.
At the end of the project:
- 74% of participating practices stated their breast screening participation rates had improved and 68% of participating practices said their cervical screening participation rates had improved.
- 100% of practices confirmed the overall aim to improve breast and cervical cancer screening rates through the delivery of structured, clinician led general practice quality improvement and health literacy interventions, was achieved.
