Looking for financial support for professional development training?
The Health Workforce Scholarship Program (HWSP) provides financial support to primary health professionals in the fields of medicine, nursing, midwifery, allied health, dentistry and Aboriginal health in rural, regional and remote areas, for further study, training and short courses. The program is an initiative of the Australian Government Department of Health, administered in New South Wales by the NSW Rural Doctors Network. The HWSP aims to improve access to primary health care services in rural and remote areas by supporting an increase in skill, capacity and scope of practice of the rural health workforce.
What funding is available?
The HWSP offers two types of funding:
- Scholarships: a payment up to $10,000 per year, for up to two years, toward the cost of completing a postgraduate course leading to a postgraduate qualification.
- Bursaries: a payment up to $10,000 (maximum of $10,000 in total in one financial year) for professional development and upskilling course fees and associated accommodation and travel-related expenses.
Who is eligible to apply for funding?
The program is aimed at health professionals working in medicine, nursing, midwifery, allied health, dentistry and Aboriginal health to increase their skills, capacity and or/scope of practice. To be eligible, applicants must:
- not be solely or primarily employed by Government including NSW Health and universities.
- be working in the fields of medicine, nursing, midwifery, allied health, or be an Aboriginal Health Worker.
