The second assessment quarter for the General Practice in Aged Care Incentive (GPACI) is now complete. The payments due to providers and practices were processed in late January 2025.
Are you getting all your entitlements?
Now is a good time to take a ‘health check’ of your practice’s participation in this incentive, including reviewing your last two statements (quarters ended 30 September 2024 and 31 December 2024) to ensure all your residential aged care patients are included as eligible and the payments have been received. You can access your list of eligible patients using the forecast assessment tab under your HPOS Online Services tile. Detailed instructions on accessing the forecasting tool can be found here.
For more information on the GPACI program, including eligibility and servicing requirements, please see earlier news articles in October 2024 and September 2024.
Pre-plan care items for best outcomes
It is also good practice to pre-plan the delivery of care planning items for the benefit of your patient and care team, to ensure you meet the full year’s servicing requirements and do not compromise future eligibility for the incentive program.
Care planning services are often most beneficial when delivered early in the care relationship, it is also recommended that an MBS731 is delivered in quarter 1 to ensure best access to multidisciplinary team care requirements. For more information about MBS items and service/care planning please view the GPACI MBS user guide.
Backdating patient registration ends 31 March 2025
If your practice or providers did not receive a GPACI payment as expected, this may be because your MyMedicare-registered patients were not registered properly for GPACI in the Organisation Register.
Up until 31 March 2025, practices who were registered for GPACI are allowed to backdate their MyMedicare registered patients’ GPACI registration so that any eligible services delivered from 1 July 2024 can be reassessed. For more information on which patients can be backdated, what date can be chosen when backdating and how to navigate this process see the health professionals education resource from Services Australia.
