The Australian Government is supporting the implementation and evaluation of twelve suicide prevention trial sites across Australia as part of the National Suicide Prevention Trial. Local Primary Health Networks are administering the funding. The North Coast of NSW is one of these trial sites.
The trial is adopting the Black Dog Institute’s LifeSpan model. To incorporate the LifeSpan approach, a number of simultaneous prevention strategies are being introduced. One particular LifeSpan strategy is aimed at equipping general practitioners and mental health professionals with the skills to identify and support people at risk of suicide.
There are various training options available in Lismore and Grafton. These sites are gauging interest in the most relevant and meaningful options by asking the preferences of those working in general practices.
