The countdown is on for the Immediate Care in Primary Health Conference being held on 22 June 2024 at Pacific Bay Resort Coffs Harbour.
Don’t miss the opportunity to join Healthy North Coast as we come together to shape the future of primary healthcare with a range of industry experts speaking across four profession specific streams for GPs, nurses, pharmacists and allied health professionals.
Chris Braithwaite, Pharmacy Lead for the Immediate Care Conference, acknowledges the uniqueness and importance of including specific streams relevant to local practices and welcomes the chance to hear from experts in their field:
“We don’t come across conferences like this in Coffs Harbour. This is a great opportunity to upskill, meet other health professionals and network to create a healthier North Coast,” Chris notes.
Pharmacists understand that busy families often present with a variety of complicated concerns from rashes and wounds to headaches and sports injuries.
Local pharmacists will be part of impactful discussions on a range of topics including treating paediatric rashes with local expert Dr Stephanie White. Dr White will step pharmacists through management options available in handling common paediatric rashes and developing strategies for identifying red flags.
As part of the line-up, Anne Fowler, RN, will discuss the management of wounds, burn and bites; another common presentation at your local pharmacy.
The agenda will also deliver topics specific to GPs, nurses and allied health professionals ensuring a comprehensive approach to tackling primary health care. Healthy North Coast GP Medical Educators, Dr Andy Williams and Dr Liz Hicks, have been pivotal in collating an ensemble of industry experts, observing how influential it is to upskill local healthcare professionals –
“Attending our conference will give you the confidence to deal with the unexpected and support your clients better.”
The provision of timely, tailored and comprehensive care is essential for preserving the health and wellbeing of our population and this focus features heavily throughout all topics.
GPs are anticipating an insightful presentation from Dr Austin May, an interventional cardiologist and cardiac pacing specialist, on improving confidence in assessing patients with acute arrhythmias in general practice.
Also, as part of the GP stream, Dr Matthew Broadhead will explore the role of the multidisciplinary team in the management of common fractures, including fracture clinics and allied health providers.
Nurses will appreciate hearing from Leanne Bryant, a registered nurse of 33 years with an extensive and varied background in the areas of critical care, education and women’s health.
Leanne will present on understanding the ECG, clinical assessment of the very young and very old as well as symptoms and treatment of anaphylaxis. These sessions, plus others, promise to equip health professionals with practical skills and insights to provide optimal care to patients.
Enhancing the Allied Health stream, we’re excited to offer a diverse array of topics tailored to meet the needs of various providers. Navigate immediate care in paediatrics with Dr. Nicola Holmes and Angeline Bray, addressing crucial strategies for handling urgent situations in young patients. Nathan O’Connor from Mid North Coast Allied Health, will lead a discussion on sports injury management where attendees will gain valuable knowledge on identifying, treating, and preventing common sports injuries.
The conference will conclude with a multidisciplinary conversation regarding the necessary services for addressing immediate mental health care needs in primary healthcare settings, a topic that is crucial within our community.
