One residential aged care facility (RACF) on the North Coast has had residents vaccinated by Healthcare Australia, with another 14 expected to run clinics. All RACFs have been communicated with and regular updates are going out. Feedback from the RACFs is that most residents are looking forward to being vaccinated and life returning to a little more normality.
For this round of vaccination visits, only residents are receiving the vaccine. RACF staff (including GPs) will receive the AstraZeneca vaccine. We are seeking clarification on when this will occur.
RACF GPs, how can you prepare?
- Support family enquiries regarding the safety of the vaccination:
- Work with the RACF clinical team to determine clinical suitability of residents to receive the vaccine.
- Monitor post vaccinations – 80% of people have a sore arms!
- Visit the HealthPathway for COVID-19 Assessment and Management in Residential Aged Care.
- All RACF GPs have access to the regular fact sheets going out to the RACFs through your Primary Health Coordinators. Fact Sheet 1 has been sent through practice managers.
