On Thursday 17 February, the Coffs Harbour and Bellingen Clinical Society will discuss non-pharmacological management of depression and anxiety.
There is an abundance of evidence assessing the effectiveness of treatments for depression and anxiety.
In many cases, non-pharmacological options can be as effective as pharmacological treatment options. They can also demonstrate significant advantages when combined with medicines such as anti-depressants.*

What to expect
The online clinical society meeting will discuss local non-pharmacological tools and interventions.
Following a case study of a young woman looking to start a family, participants will be guided through assessment, local options, barriers to treatment, and considerations such as lifestyle and family and community support.
Speakers
Leading the discussion will be Dr Ashlea Broomfield, a GP from Woolgoolga who is passionate about treating mental health concerns without medication. Dr Broomfield is a therapist, meditation teacher and embodiment facilitator.
She will explain the comparable efficacy of lifestyle factors on mild to moderate depression and anxiety against anti-depressants and anti-anxiety medication.
Joining Dr Broomfield will be:
Lisa Brown from Mindfulness Psychology & Wellbeing who will talk to mindfulness and meditation-based stress-reduction practices and services.
Aaron Hardaker from Mid North Coast Physiotherapy who will talk to local options when referring for exercise and physical movement treatment.
Linda Winn, Clinical Dietician and Eating Disorder Coordinator at Mid North Coast Local Health District who will talk to diet, gut health and local referrals.
There will be plenty of opportunity to ask questions throughout the presentation and there will be time to talk about other mental health treatment options available in the Coffs Harbour and Bellingen regions.
