As many local clinicians report, navigating the mental health care system can be difficult. Some people are too unwell for primary care but not unwell enough for state-based services. Referred to as “the missing middle”, their care is too complex for a GP but not severe enough for admission to hospital.
As well as managing the missing middle, there are those who simply want something different. They want a model of mental health care that’s catered just for them, that fits in with their lifestyle, their budget, their wants and needs. This is what will be discussed at the next Ballina and Byron Clinical Society.

Following the presentations, Dr Elizabeth Hicks, General Practitioner at First Light Healthcare Ballina and Medical Educator at Healthy North Coast will lead an open discussion about alternate services and supports that can wrap around current mental health care clinical pathways.
