Coffs Harbour’s Community Care Options has opened a 1950s style café to help people living with disabilities socialise.
It’s a welcoming space where anyone can go to catch up and meet new friends. There are colourful bench seats, a chequerboard floor and even a jukebox contributing to the atmosphere.
Under the National Disability Insurance Scheme, many people now receive one-on-one support, but still need somewhere to catch up with others. Community Care Options identified a social participation gap for people living with disabilities and the idea for the café took off from there.
The not-for-profit Spoke n Wheel is Coffs Harbour’s first retro-themed café. The menu includes burgers, hot dogs, Philly cheese steak rolls, sloppy joes, muffins, cakes and slices, milkshakes and coffee. Vegan options are available.
Located at Shop 1, 20 Gordon Street, Coffs Harbour, the Spoke n Wheel is open for dine-in Tuesday – Friday, 8am – 2pm. Call (02) 6650 2090 for more information or to make a booking, or visit their Facebook page.
