Footprints2Wellbeing is a free short-term program that promotes mental health recovery and wellness in people aged 12 and over.
The program is delivered between Port Macquarie and Tweed Heads by health support organisations The Buttery, Wellways and Rekindling the Spirit.
To be eligible, people must have reduced psychosocial functioning that is linked to a mental health illness. They also should not have an NDIS package.
Psychosocial functioning includes a person’s ability to perform daily tasks and maintain relationships, housing or employment.
Program manager Stuart Nunan says anyone interested in participating can either self-refer or be referred by a third party. Third parties may include a GP, mental health worker or family member.
The program’s aims include helping people to:
- Connect with others with lived experience of mental health issues.
- Access and navigate housing, employment and education.
- Develop daily living skills such as budgeting, cooking and shopping.
- Develop a healthier lifestyle by encouraging good eating habits and regular exercise.
- Build positive relationships with others.
- Manage alcohol and other drug issues by providing support.
Footprints2Wellbeing offers group or individual sessions, face to face or via Zoom.
There are Footprints2Wellbeing staff based in Lismore, Grafton, Ballina, Kempsey, Port Macquarie and Coffs Harbour. They also support people in surrounding areas and in smaller local towns.
