The Australian Government has recently released further information regarding the General Practice in Aged Care Incentive (GPACI).
What is GPACI?
The government is introducing the General Practice in Aged Care Incentive to better support older people living in residential aged care to receive quality patient-centred care.
GPACI aims to move away from a volume-based approach to providing care, toward more regular, planned care. Taking into consideration the new triple bulk billing incentive, increased MBS income from complex care MBS items under GPACI, rural loadings and the bulk billing incentive, modelling indicates that the majority of providers will be the same or better off under GPACI compared to the current Aged Care Access Incentive (ACAI).
Eligible practices and providers will be able to register through the My Medicare program from 1 July 2024.
Where can I find further information?
All details currently available can be found on the Department of Health and Aged Care’s website. The Department will provide more detailed information about the incentive payments in the coming weeks.
Healthy North Coast will provide support to general practice, providers and Residential Aged Care Homes on GPACI, along with other initiatives supporting aged care residents to receive quality care at home.
