May 2024 marked the successful relaunch of interprofessional education program, the Centre for Healthcare Knowledge & Innovation (CHKI), thanks to the generous support of Social Futures, the University Centre for Rural Health, Southern Cross University, North Coast Allied Health Association, NSW Agency for Clinical Innovation and Ability Options.
Since relaunching, CHKI has hosted five webinars aimed at advancing the knowledge and skills of healthcare professionals:
Reimagining Our Wellbeing: Measuring What Matters
Held on April 30, this event featured a thought-provoking conversation with Dr. Katherine Trebeck, Monika Wheeler, and Georgina Bruinsma. The discussion centred on moving beyond traditional economic metrics to assess growth and wellbeing, highlighting their impact on people and the natural environment.
Environmental Determinants of Health Webinar Series
Throughout May, Professor Tony Capon guided a four-part webinar series that delved into the integration of environmental considerations into patient care and health policy. This series offered valuable insights and strategies for embedding environmental health into everyday practice.
CHKI on the global stage
Also in May, CHKI Coordinator Bronwyn Thirkell represented Healthy North Coast at the Copenhagen Health Tech Summit. This summit provided a platform to explore how technology can address healthcare staff shortages while enhancing patient care and overall efficiency.
During the summit, Bronwyn engaged with Hans Erik Henriksen, CEO of Epital Health and former CEO of Denmark Health, paving the way for an upcoming event:

About the Centre for Healthcare Knowledge & Innovation
Established in 2016, CHKI is an interprofessional education (IPE) program designed to foster collaboration and learning among healthcare professionals. By facilitating learning experiences where professionals from different fields learn from and with each other, CHKI ensures participants gain comprehensive knowledge about their own and their colleagues’ professions. This holistic approach keeps everyone informed about health system changes, policies, and innovations, pushing the boundaries of health care.
CHKI delivers responsive and relevant education and evidence supporting innovation and system change. This initiative is particularly crucial for expanding learning opportunities for regional and rural professionals on the North Coast. Before the pandemic, CHKI offered various learning opportunities, including symposiums, workshops, site visits, webinars, seminars, and sharing news and resources. The program was paused to focus on COVID-19 and flood recovery efforts, but you’re now invited to stay tuned for more updates and opportunities to engage with CHKI.
We look forward to your participation in our upcoming events and initiatives!
