Northern NSW Health has put out a warning urging people to avoid contact with bats. This follows reports of increased numbers of bats in our region.
Bats and flying foxes can carry bacteria and viruses which can harm us, including a deadly virus called lyssavirus.
Last year, four bats that bit or scratched humans or pets were found to have the lyssavius. Thankfully none of the people or pets bitten got the virus.
