North Coast dentist Dr Brendan White has some good advice to keep your teeth and gums healthy.
- Reduce sugar – limit biscuits, cakes and sweets
- Eat nutritious snacks – fruit, nuts, yoghurt, milk and cheese
- Eat fresh, crunchy food such as apples, celery and carrots
- Drink fluoridated tap water where possible
- Drink water after meals, snacks and medicines
- Avoid sugar in tea/coffee
- Brush am and pm using a soft toothbrush on gums and teeth
- Use a pea-size amount of fluoride toothpaste
- Spit out toothpaste, but do not rinse
- Replace tooth brushes regularly
- Use floss to remove stuff that gets between teeth
- Visit dentist regularly
- Use sugarless medicines where possible
- Limit alcohol and don’t smoke
