People with schizophrenia and related psychotic disorders are more likely to experience additional health problems and are more likely to die at a younger age than people without mental health conditions.
The Department of Developmental Disability Neuropsychiatry (3DN) at UNSW Sydney aimed to assess the health, health service use, and causes of death among people with psychotic disorders.
Their research is now being used to better equip health services to meet the health needs of people with psychotic disorders. To share their findings, the researchers have developed two resources.
- Health Professional Handout is a one-page handout intended for health professionals, giving an overview of the research.
- Lived Experience Poster is designed for people with lived experience of psychotic disorders.
3DN research officer Dr Adrian Walker said he hoped the poster could be placed in healthcare settings such as GP waiting rooms or hospital waiting rooms, so people who are waiting to receive care could engage with the poster.
“This poster was developed with the aid of someone with lived experience with psychotic disorders who recommended the poster format, so we are hoping that it will have a strong impact if it is well distributed,” he said.
