Staff and clinicians at Tweed Banora Medical Centre had a lot of fun with their Healthy Heart Awareness campaign during the month of February. They decorated their practice as well as dressed in red to raise awareness of the importance of having a healthy heart check.
To complete this quality improvement activity, the practice:
- Provided extra education sessions to ensure staff and clinicians had the latest resources and information to conduct healthy heart checks.
- Purchased an ABI machine.
- Conducted searches for high-risk patients using the CAT4 tool. Practice nurses followed up these patients and invited them in for a healthy heart check.
- Arranged for a cardiologist to consult at the practice.
- Explored the opportunity for a company to attend the practice to conduct echo tests on-site for their patients.
Many patients who have visited the practice commented on the decorations, which has helped to raise awareness. One patient said “I have never had anything checked” and was keen to have a healthy heart check.
Well done, Tweed Banora Medical Centre! This is a great initiative to improve patient outcomes, as well as meeting your PIP QI requirements.
