The Get Healthy in Pregnancy service offers free phone and online health coaching to support pregnant women make lifestyle changes to improve their health and wellbeing.
Delivered by NSW Health, the service is available for all pregnant women over the age of 16 years living in NSW. Participants receive six to ten confidential coaching calls with a university qualified health coach.
Health professionals such as general practitioners, nurses and midwives, and allied health practitioners play a vital role in helping their patients to build healthy lifestyle habits to support their wellbeing, improve pregnancy outcomes and lower their risk of disease. The Get Healthy in Pregnancy service offers an effective and evidence-based referral option to complement patient care.
In the 2023-2024 financial year, 492 women from the Mid North Coast area were referred to the Get Healthy in Pregnancy service, with 91 women enrolling in the program. Of those participants who completed the program, there was an improvement in daily vegetable intake, physical activity levels and water intake. There was also a reduction in consumption of take-away foods, sweet drinks and salty snacks.
