Around 70% of Australians say they would prefer to die at home, yet only around 14% do.
As more people live with frailty, dementia and chronic disease, general practice plays an increasingly important role in supporting people to remain at home and receive high-quality palliative and end-of-life care.
Regional Palliative Care Roundtables
Healthy North Coast is inviting general practitioners, GP registrars and other primary care clinicians with an interest in palliative care to attend one of 5 Regional Palliative Care Roundtables being held across Kyogle, Lismore, Grafton, Kempsey and Nambucca this September.
We’ll share what we’ve learnt from our recent Palliative Care Needs Assessment, explore the changing landscape of community-based palliative care, and most importantly, hear directly from local GPs about what’s working well, where the challenges are, and what support would best enable general practice to provide high-quality palliative and end-of-life care.
These roundtables are not traditional education sessions. They are an opportunity to connect with colleagues, share experiences and help shape our future initiatives to support general practice.
Dinner will be provided, and a certificate of attendance will be available to support self-reporting of 1.5 hours of CPD.
Workshop dates and registrations are available via our Events page.
Join our Community of Practice
We have also established a monthly GP Palliative & End of Life Care Community of Practice to continue these conversations throughout the year. Meeting on the first Wednesday of the month from 6-7pm on Microsoft Teams, join us for the next meeting on 5 August 2026.
If you’d like to join future meetings, please contact Kelsey Tarrant, Key Lead Palliative and End of Life Care at ktarrant@hnc.org.au.
