North Coast Primary Health Network is one of three sites working with the University of Melbourne on an Australian first trial of stepped care. The trial tests a structured approach to identifying mental health needs and triaging patients to appropriate treatment pathways.
The trial takes place in general practices. Patients use an iPad to complete a short assessment and receive treatment options. Treatment may include working with a Care Navigator employed by the NCPHN. The Care Navigator:
Patient recovery is measured at regular intervals over an 18-month period.
Ideally practices in the trial should see at least 100 patients aged 18 to 75 per day and also provide a private room for patients to attend trial appointments. General practices receive a participation grant of up to $500 per month and 40 Category 1 RACGP CPD points.

We acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land we live and work, the Bundjalung, Arakwal, Yaegl, Gumbaynggirr, Githabul, Dunghutti and Birpai Nations, and their continuing connection to land, sea and community. We pay our respects to elders past, present and future.
