By the end of 2018, everybody in Australia will have a My Health Record (MyHR) unless they opt out. This was the message at the two MyHR Region Ready events held in Ballina and Coffs Harbour in March and April.
The events brought together general practice staff, pharmacists, allied health professionals, specialists, hospital staff and the wider community to explore how MyHR will work when everyone plays their role.
Heather McDonald, the Director of Clinical and Community Use and Education Support from the Australian Digital Health Agency (ADHA), responded to questions about privacy and security within MyHR and highlighted the benefits to clinicians to enable more cohesive patient care.
With 90 percent of general practices in the region already registered for MyHR and an increasing number of pharmacist registrations underway, this discussion could not have come at a better time.
Cliff Coleman from North Coast Podiatry said the event was valuable as he learnt how MyHR will simplify things for practitioners and increase the quality and safety of health care information delivery.
Attendees had the opportunity to see MyHR from different profession’s perspectives and discuss what it looks like for each profession.
Chris Braithwaite, a pharmacist at the Galambila Aboriginal Health Service, said the event was a fantastic opportunity to ensure providers are confident to operate and deliver more efficient and effective care. It also enabled attendees to appreciate other health professional’s points of view, which is valuable when understanding the patient journey through our health system.
