Attendees who joined us over the last 6 months for our Sexual Health and STI Clinical Society events, both online and face to face, indicated there was an interest in further information on topics impacting the communities we live and work in.
As such, we wanted to touch base with a webinar recording on the reemergence of MPOX (Monkeypox) in the Northern Rivers of NSW.
After the initial cases of MPOX in NSW in 2022, notifications of the disease quickly fell until an unexpected re-emergence in June of this year. Numbers are now increasing again across the whole of NSW with a cluster of cases being reported in the Northern Rivers.
In order to combat this increase in numbers, diligence amongst our primary health care professionals is essential.
In the webinar recording, you will hear Dr Vincent Cornelisse (Medical Director NNSWLHD) and Dr Kym Collins (Staff Specialist MNCLHD, HIV and Sexual Health) discuss:
- symptoms and clinical features
- the impact of HIV on MPOX severity
- who and how to test
- management and contact tracing
You will also hear the important take home messages on the importance of having a low threshold for testing, promotion of vaccination and how to arrange this, and the essential contact numbers:
- Sexual Health Information Link on 1800 451 624 for clinical support
- North Coast Public Health Unit on 1300 066 055 to report suspected cases
