NSW Health are currently running a Sepsis Awareness Campaign which seeks to empower communities to recognise the signs of sepsis and seek timely medical assistance.
Sepsis is when your body has an extreme response to an infection. Sepsis can affect anyone.
There are many possible signs and symptoms of sepsis. Some of these include:
- Getting very sick, very quickly
- Difficulty breathing
- Confusion
- Not needing to urinate (wee) all day or less often than usual
- A rash or blue, grey, pale or blotchy skin
- Feeling your child is very sick – trust your instincts
Sepsis is a life-threatening condition and needs immediate medical attention.
Even if you have already seen a doctor, if you or your child is still sick and not getting better, go back to your doctor or hospital emergency department, or call Triple Zero 000 if it is an emergency. Don’t be afraid to ask “Could it be sepsis?”
Check out the sepsis fact sheet and web page from NSW Health, which contain many resources including educational videos from clinicians.
