The Queensland Government has announced that the Queensland border zone will expand from 1am on Thursday 1 October.
The zone will now include the Byron, Ballina, Lismore, Richmond Valley and Glen Innes local government areas. The easing of restrictions has been welcomed by health practitioners and community members in our region.
Residents living within the border communities can travel freely within the border zone. To cross the border, NSW residents will need to obtain a Queensland Border Declaration Pass.
Queensland Chief Health Officer Jeanette Young has stated that restrictions may be further relaxed this week if the number of new cases in northern NSW remains low.
More information is expected to be available soon on the Queensland Government website.
