Last week, the Minister for Health, Hon. Ryan Park and the Chief Cancer Officer and Cancer Institute NSW CEO, Professor Tracey O’Brien publicly launched the NSW Skin Cancer Prevention Strategy 2023-2030.
Skin cancer remains a major health issue in NSW, with over 95% caused by the sun’s UV radiation.
Concerningly, people in the North Coast region experience the highest rate of melanoma in Australia. Goals of the strategy include:
- To embed skin cancer prevention across the public sector, private sector and community
- To improve access to quality shade at work, school, play and in public places as part of a healthier built environment
- To increase the adoption of sun/UV protection behaviours among those with low sun protection behaviours, those at high risk of skin cancer and the broader community
