NSW Health has today escalated the risk rating for COVID-19 to a moderate risk level (amber).
This requires all NSW Health employees to wear a surgical mask if they are within 1.5m of patients. Patients are also required to wear a mask where possible. This directive applies to hospital and community health settings and is effective immediately. It follows increasing community transmission of COVID-19.
More information is available in the COVID-19 Infection Prevention and Control Response and Escalation Framework and poster.
General practitioners in NSW are not mandated to wear masks. However, RACGP announced today that GPs will be advised to wear masks to align with the new policy. It will be up to GPs whether they request that patients also wear masks.
