The annual Pen CS Awards are returning in 2023 and it’s time to consider nominating.
The awards, which are in their 30th year, recognise excellence in data-driven quality improvement in general practice and Aboriginal medical services across Australia. They provide an opportunity to acknowledge the continuous hard work and achievements of primary healthcare.
There are eight categories:
‘Closing the Gap’ Award
This award recognises an organisation that has contributed significantly to improving care for Aboriginal and or Torres Strait Islander patients and communities in their general practice.
Quality Improvement Initiative of the Year Award
This award acknowledges an organisation that has demonstrated data-driven quality improvement initiatives to improve clinical outcomes in their general practice.
Data-Driven Clinical Excellence Award
This award recognises an organisation that has shown exceptional clinical outcomes, by translating data insights into actionable activities.
Research in General Practice Award
This award acknowledges an organisation that has contributed to research in general practice. This means the organisation has been a participant in a research study with either a university or research organisation.
Data Quality Award
This award category recognises an organisation that has illustrated distinctive data quality. This means the organisation strives to improve data quality using CAT and Topbar.
Patient-Centred Care Award
This award acknowledges an organisation that has demonstrated exceptional patient-centred care.
Sustainable Business Award
This award recognises an organisation that has displayed exceptional efforts in maximising revenues, streamlining management plans and workflow and/ or supporting workforce challenges in their general practice.
GPs Choice – PHN/ACCHO of the Year
This award acknowledges a PHN/ACCHO that has demonstrated outstanding training and support to practices to improve patient outcomes.

Winners will be announced at a gala event in Sydney in September and will receive a cash prize and trophy in recognition of their achievements.
