A new HealthPathway is now available to support clinicians who are caring for a patient following a Motor Vehicle Accident.
The Motor Vehicle Accident Injuries pathway provides guidance for best practice assessment and management when a patient presents with an injury following a motor vehicle accident and wishes to claim statutory benefits under the NSW compulsory third-party (CTP) insurance scheme.
Dr Sarah Mollard, a local GP and HealthPathways Clinical Editor said that she hoped the pathway would be useful both for experienced GPs and for registrars, locums and IMGs who may not yet be familiar with the NSW CTP scheme:
“The pathway provides clear information about how the scheme works and the responsibilities of the treating medical practitioner, as well as lots of useful information to share with patients”.
One key resource linked from the pathway is the icare guide to starting a conversation with your patient about recovering at work. This resource provides suggestions for evidence-based messages that can support patients to return to work early, which has been shown to improve recovery outcomes.
This new pathway adds to a suite of HealthPathways designed to support health system navigation, with other highlights in the suite including the Work Injuries, NDIS, and MBS Items pages.
