Healthy North Coast is partnering with researchers and experts from the Australian Institute of Health Innovation at Macquarie University, along with the University of New South Wales, Asthma Australia and the Royal Australian College of Medical Administration in an effort to support GPs through clinical decision making processes in the care of paediatric patients.
General practitioners that work with paediatric populations are invited to complete a 30-minute interview via Zoom. The purpose of the interview is to understand how GPs make clinical decisions when treating this population.
How will this research help general practitioners?
This research aims to understand clinical reasoning and decision-making among general practitioners, specifically regarding paediatric patients. In doing so, the valuable GP insights from this research will help inform interventions tailored to general practice, to support general practitioners throughout the clinical decision-making process.
We would like to understand what influences GP decision making, including any contextual factors, and understand what could potentially help GPs make these decisions.
How will this research help patients?
This research will help improve the health and wellbeing of Australian children and adolescents by understanding the contextual factors within general practice settings that can impact their care.
In supporting general practitioners to make timely, and appropriate clinical decisions about diagnosis and referral, we can potentially improve patient outcomes and reduce the burden on the health care system.
How long will this research take?
This research will comprise online interviews for a maximum duration of 30 minutes.
What will happen after the research is complete?
This research will help inform interventions that are suitable and appropriate to general practice, as part of the broader National Paediatric Applied Research Translation Initiative (N-PARTI).
Interventions may consist of patient and clinician education, and capacity-building activities, among others. Healthy North Coast will share the research findings with all general practices.
The attached Participant Information Statement and Consent Form (PISCF) has further detail. This consent form can be signed.
