Healthy North Coast is encouraging GPs with a special interest, expertise, or relevant qualifications to register their details on the GP to GP Referrals page on HealthPathways.
Launched in 2023, the page has become a valued resource for facilitating timely, appropriate referrals within general practice. It is designed to strengthen GP collaboration and make better use of the diverse clinical skills and specialised knowledge within our general practice community.
What is the GP-to-GP Referral page?
The GP-to-GP referral pathway helps GPs connect with colleagues who have specific expertise or clinical interests, making it easier to refer patients for targeted input or procedures, while maintaining continuity with the patient’s usual GP. It also brings structure and transparency to what was once informal knowledge, providing an up-to-date list of GPs who are willing to accept referrals in areas such as S100 HIV prescribing and medical termination of pregnancy.
The page currently lists 131 participating GPs, reflecting strong local engagement.
“This pathway fills a longstanding gap – helping us to quickly locate which of our colleagues can offer specific consultations or procedures,” says HealthPathways Clinical Editor Dr Susan Roberts.
“It gives visibility to GP expertise that’s often hidden, and helps us refer more effectively within our own specialty”.
Who should register?
GPs who would like to receive referrals from other GPs in a defined clinical area are encouraged to register their details.
You can complete the GP Referral Registration form here. The form includes a free text option to nominate additional areas of interest not currently listed.
