Kelly Torrens and Emily Thatcher from the Aboriginal Health Team at North Coast Primary Health Network (NCPHN) were at the Koori Knockout in Lismore on Saturday 15 September 2018. They attended as part of the ‘Putting Out the Fires’ and ‘Ready Set Go! Healthy Heart!’ working groups, which are aimed at improving health outcomes for women. The working groups are a partnership between the Local Health District, NCPHN, Solid Mob and Aboriginal Medical Services.
The day consisted of heart health checks, a healthy cook off trailer providing healthy cooking skills, and promotion of the Integrated Team Care Program. Tony Browne from NCPHN joined the ladies to promote My Health Record.
Putting Out the Fires is a social media campaign that supported eight women’s teams in the Koori Knockout. These women promote smoke-free messages to the community aimed at reducing tobacco use in Aboriginal communities. It was an excellent day with many community members stopping by to collect information.
