Healthy Towns has been integral in helping to get the Lake Cathie Community Hub and Garden up and running.
Among a range of initiatives, the Healthy Towns program is funding a coordinator from Hastings Neighbourhood Services, Brendan Woollam, to establish the community hub and garden.
“Health and wellbeing messages are promoted through all of the Hub’s programs and services, including our Food Connect program and our Seaside Stretch and Move class,” Mr Woollam said.
Earlier in 2020, the Hub held a Family Fun Day and Community Expo, bringing everyone together and raising money for the Lake Cathie and Bonny Hills Rural Fire Service.
A variety of community groups participated, including the Lake Cathie Progress Association, the Lions Club, the iconic Big Red Bus, Landcare, Cathie Crafters, Yoga Rebel and Zumba Fitness.
Healthy Towns has also provided funding for a much-needed community noticeboard, located outside the Lake Cathie Woolworths complex. Construction of the community garden is due to begin later this year. A group of keen garden club members has already begun staking out the garden.
Activities at the Lake Cathie Community Hub and Garden include tai chi, a play group for pre-schoolers, social gardening for over 60s, and a homework hub open to children and parents.
