The Kempsey District Hospital Emergency Department has been seeing more patients presenting with a request from their GP for an iron infusion due to the Day Procedure Unit’s waiting list.
Please note that routine iron infusions should be performed via the Day Procedures Unit. GPs should fax through their referral letter and the most recent blood test results. They should also provide the patient with the script for the iron infusion which the patient fills prior to presentation. There may be a short waiting list depending on demand at the time of referral.
If the GP deems that URGENT infusion is required, the patient may be referred to Kempsey District Emergency Department. However they MUST present with:
