With changes to the Cervical Screening Test commencing 1 July 2022, there is important information health care providers and pathology laboratories will need to be across.
Self-collected vaginal samples for HPV testing must be clearly identified by providers of medical pathology services. This includes when referring self-collected samples to a laboratory. Different pathology laboratories may have different collection and handling instructions and requirements due to the range of collection devices and methods available under the National Cervical Screening Program.
Speak to your usual pathology provider to confirm:
- they are able to process self-collected vaginal samples or if they will refer to a laboratory
- can order the correct collection device and other consumables
- collection, handling and transport requirements.
