Earlier in August, Healthy North Coast was proud to support the opening of a new general practice in Iluka, NSW – a community-led initiative improving access to vital health services and local employment opportunities in the regional coastal town.
O Plus Health Iluka, led by Dr Anthony Anachuna, officially opened in early August 2025, offering residents timely and consistent primary care close to home.
After nearly four years without a general practice, Iluka has welcomed back this essential service, reducing the need for patients to travel long distances for medical services. This achievement was made possible through collaboration between local leaders, health providers, and Healthy North Coast.
The clinic employs local community members in clinical and administrative roles, supporting the local economy and strengthening ties between the clinic and the community it serves.
Importantly, the clinic is working in collaboration with the local pharmacy to ensure seamless, coordinated care for patients – supporting medication management, timely prescriptions, and comprehensive health advice within the community.
The clinic provides a full range of primary care services, including:
- Preventive health
- Chronic disease management and planning
- Immunisations and health assessments
- On-site pathology
- Qualified nursing staff
“Access to local services like a high-risk foot clinic, on-site pathology, and experienced nursing staff is essential for improving health outcomes in regional communities like Iluka,” said Dr Anachuna, General Practitioner.
“These services not only help us deliver more timely and preventative care, but they also reduce the burden on patients who would otherwise need to travel long distances for essential treatment. Our goal is to provide comprehensive, community-based care that supports people to stay healthy and well, close to home.”
The clinic’s opening was celebrated with a ‘meet & greet’ event held at Club Iluka on Saturday 2 August 2025, organised by local volunteer and prominent community member Nev, the Iluka Bowling Club, and sponsored by Healthy North Coast.
The event gave residents the chance to meet Dr Anachuna, other GPs and clinic staff and learn about the health services now available locally. The community response was overwhelmingly positive, reflecting strong support for improved access to health care and local job creation.
“This is a great example of what can happen when a community comes together to drive positive change,” said Luke Elias, Director Primary Health Programs & Partnerships at Health North Coast.
“We’re proud to support this locally led solution that is improving access to primary care and creating meaningful employment in Iluka. This clinic will strengthen the health and wellbeing of the community for years to come.”
