On 2 September, Healthy North Coast presented at the Primary Care Conference 2024 on place-based primary health care innovation in the context of disasters.
As one of only four Primary Health Networks (PHNs) who were invited to present, out of 29 PHNs that were present at the conference, we were able to showcase our local response and recovery achievements from the 2022 Northern Rivers floods.
Monika Wheeler, Healthy North Coast CEO, demonstrated how community and health system resilience reduces the impact of disasters, as well as reliance on acute and out of region resources.
PHNs and primary health care services offer unique value and need to be embedded into national and state disaster management.
