As part of strengthening MyMedicare, the General Practice Aged Care Incentive (GP ACI) aims to support older people living in residential aged care to receive planned, continuous, and quality primary care from a GP and the practice based care support team, with financial support to GPs and general practices to make this more viable.
How does the new incentive work?
Registrations opened on 1 July 2024. Once registered in MyMedicare and the GP ACI, practices and medical practitioners can begin delivering eligible services, with the first incentive assessment period being 1 July 2024 to 30 September 2024.
Incentive payments will be quarterly, in addition to existing Medicare Benefits Scheme and Department of Veterans’ Affairs rebates for services delivered.
More detailed information on the incentive is available in the General Practice in Aged Care Incentive program guidelines.
Resources to support GPs, Residential Aged Care facilities, residents and families to prepare for and participate in the new scheme are continually developing. The most recent include:
- Program guidelines, and Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) available on the General Practice in Aged Care Incentive webpage.
- Information on MBS codes, how to register your practice and templates for partnerships with residential aged care facilities on Healthy North Coast’s website
- Services Australia factsheets and a learning module to support practices and GPs with the General Practice in Aged Care Incentive
- Hear from participating GPs in short videos What is General Practice in Aged Care Incentive (GPACI)? and How to register Aged Care patients
