Healthy North Coast has launched an online learning portal to deliver the National Telehealth Training program to local clinicians that provide services to residents in aged care.
This free online training offers clinicians the opportunity to learn best practice telehealth guidelines to build on their capabilities in providing telehealth video consultations to residents.
It is suitable for, but not limited to:
- Registered nurses
- Care managers
- General practitioners
- Registrars
- Allied health practitioners
- Specialists.
The program was developed in partnership with 15 other Primary Health Networks (PHNs) across Australia, and is fully accredited through the Royal Australian College of GPs, the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine, and the Australian College of Nursing, allowing nurses and GPs to claim CPD points upon completion.Â
Helping aged care residents get better access to care
For Residential Aged Care Home (RACH) residents, telehealth has a multitude of benefits, from reducing the need for unwell or frail residents to leave their homes, to saving clinicians travel time or allowing access to specialists unavailable locally.Â
The training program aims to:Â
- Create consistency in how the aged care sector uses telehealth, particularly video consultations
- Establish best available practice guidelines for all aspects of telehealth, tailored to the needs of the residential aged care sectorÂ
- Help aged care homes and clinicians working in the aged care sector, become aware of the opportunities telehealth provides and to manage its risks.Â
The program offers two streams – RACH staff and clinicians – with clear learning pathways to support beginners, those wanting to improve their efficiency in using telehealth, and additional modules for managers (or equivalent) and owners. Â
James Stack, the Managing Director of Obvious Choice, an award-winning learning design agency who created the program, said:
“Modules are about six minutes long, so they can easily fit around busy schedules. Each module provides practical advice, a checklist and resources to help apply learning quickly. Videos with plain-language closed captions help make the materials more accessible.”
These training modules are part of a broader suite of resources for primary care providers being rolled out by HNC’s Primary Care Impact team as part of of our healthy ageing initiatives and is hosted on Accelerate QI, our Learning Management System (LMS).Â
How to access the training modules
The LMS is accessible to all residential aged care staff and clinicians who provide telehealth to residents in aged care. It’s as simple as creating your account and completing each of the learning pathways relevant to your learning. With your account, you will be able to access from anywhere, on any device and be able to jump straight back into where you left off.Â
Once complete, a certificate of completion will be supplied so CPD points can be claimed.Â
Access the training program and create your account.Â
You can also download our A4 flyer to share in your RACH or with your practice nurse, staff and/or GPs.Â
The program is also accessible via the Telehealth page on HealthPathways (username: manchealth, password: conn3ct3d)
