Looking for alternative income to offset your clinical hours? Get paid for thinking and become a GP clinical adviser with Healthy North Coast.
Healthy North Coast invites expressions of interest from GPs with a strong knowledge and passion for population health to become a part-time clinical adviser. The provision of GP clinical advice and support on population health across the HNC footprint will be provided on a range of initiatives and programs. Clinical input areas where advice may be sought will be within the scope of practice and within ethical guidelines of Professional Bodies.
Clinical input will include but not be limited to:
- Media interviews and events — providing commentary on population and preventative health topics in the public domain, including TV and radio interviews and attending public events. Examples of activities include answering questions about the COVID-19 vaccination program, promoting the benefits of good nutrition and exercise to preventing chronic illness and attending a public forum with the Healthy North Coast CEO to promote skin cancer prevention activities.
- Program development — working with Healthy North Coast staff to develop programs across the spectrum of population health and the prevention of chronic disease (i.e. primary, secondary, and tertiary prevention) including health literacy, self-management, protective health determinants, immunisation, cancer prevention & screening/early detection, chronic conditions, communicable diseases and other public health issues. This may include liaison with the Public Health Unit and providing general practice perspectives into program development.
- Education and quality improvement — supporting Healthy North Coast staff and other clinical educators to deliver education and quality improvement activities for primary health care professionals (GPs, allied health professionals and nurses) on population health topics. This may include presenting the GP perspective at an immunisation education session in collaboration with the Public Health Unit or supporting a practice to develop innovative quality improvement activities around cancer screening.
Being a confident public speaker is a must for this role, but media experience is not and will be provided. GPs with availability of at least 5-8 hours per week are invited to express their interest. Flexible and working from home arrangements will be supported, although face-to-face attendance at events will be required from time to time, often out of business hours. Post-graduate education in population and/or public health is desirable.
