Specialist Breast Care Nurses have advanced training in the provision of physical, psychological and emotional support to people diagnosed with breast cancer. They can provide advice and support to general practice in relation to the care of patients.
From the time of diagnosis and throughout treatment, support is available for free, in the private or public health system. Nurses provide support for all stages of breast cancer – from early through to metastatic.
Lismore-based nurses Monica Hogan and Karen Hennings are both Specialist Breast Care Nurses, based at Lismore Community Health, meeting with clients in their homes, community settings or other convenient venues.
Breast Care Nurses can also attend specialist appointments, providing “an extra set of ears” for listening to information and providing support.
Specialist Breast Care Nurses are also available to conduct breast awareness sessions to community groups and health care facilities.
Self-referrals accepted, as well as from GPs, specialists and allied health providers.
