Healthy North Coast recently hosted an End-of-Life Law workshop in Coffs Harbour, where a gathering of clinicians had plenty of questions on navigating this complicated element of care.
The interactive workshop, led by Katrine Del Villar (End of Life Law for Clinicians, Queensland University of Technology) and Dr Andy Williams, guided participants through a clinical case study, fostering discussion on legal and ethical decision-making in end-of-life care.
The session covered key legal responsibilities, including capacity and consent for medical treatment, substitute decision-making processes, futile or non-beneficial treatment, providing pain and symptom relief legally and ethically, and Advance Care Directives.
The workshop was well-appreciated by attendees:
“What a great evening it was; such an awesome opportunity to refresh my knowledge, learn new recommendations and ask questions in a safe and supportive environment. It was extremely relevant for all nurses, especially those working in Residential Aged Care. I couldn’t recommend it enough!” – Samantha Cox, Director, North Coast Nurses.
